About Us

About Lakeflow:

  • Consultancy in the design and application of pumps founded by Geoff Lake in 1991.
  • Ability to tackle a wide range of problems associated with pumps.
  • Equipped with a powerful SolidWorks 3D solid modelling CAD system complete with latest solid and surface modelling techniques. This and our fast Internet connection allow us to deliver designs in wide variety of CAD formats anywhere in the world.
  • Work undertaken at daily rate or fixed project cost allowing control of your spending.
  • Complete confidentiality assured. We don't even tell anyone who we are working for (or have worked for) without their permission.
  • Examples of work carried out: Although the basic hydraulic design procedures may be similar, the major requirements vary enormously for different types of work. In some cases efficiency may be the first priority, in others it may reliability, suction performance, curve shape, reduction of wear, driver power and so on.
    • Hydraulic and mechanical design of horizontal split case pumps for water and fire duties - requirements for high efficiency and matching performance to specific driver ratings.
    • Hydraulic design of large dredge pump impellers - requirement is for longest possible component life before it wears away.
    • On-site investigation of low pump output - on site testing to establish pump and system characteristics.
    • Hydraulic design of all types of pumps for domestic use - need to meet maximum head and maximum flow requirement with minimum driver size - matching of pump and driver characteristics is essential.
    • Design of pump chambers and impellers for ‘integrated pumps’ - much the same requirements as for domestic pumps but also must meet dimensional and construction constraints to match the rest of the product.
    • Hydraulic design for ANSI, ISO and API pumps - for ANSI and ISO standards, the requirement is often to achieve a higher duty within the standard dimensions - often requiring some ingenuity. API requirements are largely concerned with curve shape, robust mechanical design and low vibration.
    • Solid models produced for finite element analysis and Rapid Prototyping - many projects in which Lakeflow is involved use Rapid Prototyping to produce the initial test models. In other cases solid models are used for subsequent design analysis or CNC pattern or tool manufacture.

About Geoff Lake:

  • Professional Mechanical Engineer specialising in the design and application of rotodynamic pumps.
  • 1st Class Honours degree in Mechanical Engineering from Brunel University in 1972.
  • Prior to 1991, 25 years with major pump manufacturer SPP from apprentice to Group Engineering Manager with responsibility for all SPP's engineering activities worldwide.
  • Up to 1991, responsible for design and development of many pumps and pump ranges - axial flow, mixed flow and radial flow from 20 mm to 1000 mm discharge size. Applications including water supply, sewage, sludges, fire protection, traction duties, building services, industrial and process.
  • With Lakeflow, range of experience has greatly increased including pumps from domestic size to large API units.
  • Keen computer user and programming skills in several languages.
  • Former member of British, European (CEN and CENELEC) and International(ISO) Standards Committees for pumps.
